About - Nikon D3000

The D3000 is a 10-megapixel camera with a kit lens that has a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27mm-82.5mm. It has a 2.7-inch LCD (230,000 pixels). It also includes a through-the-lens viewfinder, which is helpful when composing in bright light.

Because it accepts interchangeable lenses, and includes a mirror and a through-the-lens viewfinder, we consider this model an SLR.

The camera's kit lens has a maximum aperture of f/3.5. The camera's shutter speed range is 30 seconds to 1/4000 of a second.

The D3000 stores photos on SD/SDHC memory cards but has no on-board storage. It captures images as JPG or RAW files at a top resolution of 3872 x 2592.

Like most digital cameras, this model comes with a proprietary rechargeable battery.

This SLR has 11 autofocus points. It also includes 3 flash modes (for the on-board flash), 6 exposure modes, and an exposure compensation control that can be set at +/-5 EV. The image stabilization system for this camera is lens-based.

The D3000 measures 5.1 inches wide by 3.9 inches high by 6.1 inches deep, and weighs 30 ounces (1.9 pounds) (with battery, memory card, and strap).

About This Brand

Nikon has a fairly extensive line of point-and-shoot models, known as Coolpix cameras. Its subcompacts, compacts, and super zooms are divided into three series—the budget L, step-up S, and high-end P series. Nikon also has an innovative S series camera that includes a built-in projector that lets you beam images or video clips onto any surface. Like Canon's SLR lineup, Nikon's D series offers cameras for every SLR user and budget and a wide range of lenses. High-end SLRs include large, full-frame sensors, which offer better quality in low light.

Comment:
This camera has proven itself in photographs at construction sites and of railroading. Even with the 200 mm lenses, it isn't as heavy as my old film Pentax (especially with it's 200 mm lense). There is so much to learn. I bought Nikon's book on [...], but haven't yet read it all.Only disappointment was disappointing low light performance (pictures taken from stands) of band and team in action in night high school football games.

My first DSLR. I was close to buying the D90, but I'm not making money with my photos, besides it is 3x as much.

Orders of magnitude better than any point and shoot including the performance ones.

I wanted to get clear unblured action shots of my boy playing soccer with the ball and his foot clear and sharp. To stop the splashing water and Shamu jumping with clarity, or a 60mph roller coaster passing by for examples.

Unless you are blowing up your pics to over 18 inches, or doing heavy professional editing, megapixel size has absolutely no advantage, plus it takes up more media space.

Takes awhile to get used to menu options,

All TOLD: Get a D3100.(so close to the D3000 + 1080p video for $200 more)

Great pics and enjoy the no shakey from the lens.I added my old Nikon lens 70- 300, and I do need to have a tri or mono to keep camera lens steady. I Shoot family,landscape,close-ups with attachments.

a wee bit heavy
I purchased this camera as I was about to leave for a 10-day vacation in Switzerland. This camera did not disappoint me; it was simple to use; took absolutely beautiful photos. I especially like having to use the view finder instead of the display to shoot the pics. Displays have always presented problems for me especially since I am near sighted with an astigmatism. So pleased I made this purchase, but I do not like the Nikon DX zoom lens I purchased with this camera. It is just not do the job.

Strength
You can't take a bad photo unless you forget to remove the lens cover!
Weakness
It makes you look so good your always taking photo's while everyone else is eating pie.
The photo's are sharp wide and as a non expert I leave it on Auto mode and point & shoot. It's user friendly and as you feel like taking on more it guides you thru with ease.
