The Lumix DMC-LX5 stores photos and video on SD/SDHC memory cards and has 40MB of in-board storage. It captures images as JPG or RAW files at a top resolution of 3648 x 2736 and HD-resolution video as MTS, MOV files at a top resolution of 1280 x 720.

Like most digital cameras, this model comes with a proprietary rechargeable battery.

This advanced point-and-shoot has 23 autofocus points. It also includes 3 flash modes (for the on-board flash), 20 exposure modes, and an exposure compensation control that can be set at +/-3 EV. The image stabilization system for this camera is lens-based.

The Lumix DMC-LX5 measures 4.7 inches wide by 2.8 inches high by 2 inches deep, and weighs 10 ounces (with battery, memory card, and strap).

About This Brand

Every Panasonic Lumix, from pricey super zooms to budget models, has optical stabilization. Many models offer great value when they combine optical image stabilization with innovations such as intelligent ISO, which automatically raises the camera sensor's sensitivity when it detects motion, allowing faster shutter speed.  Panasonic has introduced several G-series Lumix models that are based on micro four-thirds sensor technology. This type of camera combines key SLR features—a large image sensor and interchangeable lenses—with the smaller size and weight of a point-and-shoot. Panasonic also offers two L series SLR bodies and some lenses. It has also introduced a G Series camera that accepts a 3D lens to shoot 3D video and photos.

Comment:
I owned mid-range Olympus point and shoots for backpacking for six or seven years and was dissatisfied with the quality of detail. The LX-5 is head and shoulders above anything I've used before. I use a D-70 for in-town photography and the images the LX-5 produce rival!

Comment:
This is the third version of the LX line I've owned. I lost the first Leica version, replaced it w/ an LX3, and now the LX5. The utility is superior as is the build quality. The Movie feature is shockingly strong. I suggest getting a larger 16gb card for extended movie use. Used w/ a tripod the camera can produce tacksharp images (bracketed raw shots) for HDR processing.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
