About - Pentax K-x

The K-x is a 12-megapixel camera with a kit lens that has a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27mm-82.5mm. It has a live-view 2.6-inch LCD (230,000 pixels). It also includes a through-the-lens viewfinder, which is helpful when composing in bright light.

Because it accepts interchangeable lenses, and includes a mirror and a through-the-lens viewfinder, we consider this model an SLR.

The camera's kit lens has a maximum aperture of f/3.5. The camera's shutter speed range is 30 seconds to 1/6000 of a second.

The K-x stores photos and video on SD/SDHC memory cards but has no on-board storage. It captures images as JPG or RAW files at a top resolution of 4288 x 2848 and HD-resolution video as AVI files at a top resolution of 1280 x 720.

Unlike most digital cameras, this model accepts AA batteries.

This SLR has 11 autofocus points. It also includes 3 flash modes (for the on-board flash), 16 exposure modes, and an exposure compensation control that can be set at +/-3 EV. The image stabilization system for this camera is body-based.

The K-x measures 4.9 inches wide by 3.7 inches high by 5.3 inches deep, and weighs 31 ounces (2 pounds) (with battery, memory card, and strap).

Comment:
I have almost the same comments as the reviewer from 10/28/2010. I bought the camera in February 2011 and immediately noticed problems with electronics and poor battery use. I attributed problems to bad rechargeable batteries. Got a replacement recharger from retailer and took camera on European vacation. Batteries still died after short use; same problems with alkaline batteries and lithium batteries. Since I was now past the store's 30 day warranty, I had to send it back to Pentax for repair. It's still there after two weeks, waiting for parts. I've missed using the camera on vacation, two school events and now Easter. It was the first DSLR I ever bought and I also will never buy another Pentax camera.

Comment:
This is my first DSLR and I've taken it everywhere. Probably over 2000 pics to date. The main limitation at this point is the Pentax name. The ease in which you can find Pentax brand equipment is not nearly as good ast Canon or Nikon. Regardless, if you want DSLR quality but not the high price tag, the Kx is all you need.

Very easy to use if you are just having fun, but can also be a creative tool when you want to use some its features.

Strength
compact, easy to use, aesthetics
Weakness
a bit small for my hands, but will fit most perfectly
This a great camera. I've been shooting medium format film for years and chose this camera to go digital. If this is what lower end DSLRs are capable of I don't see much of a future for film outside of hobbyists like myself. I am highly impressed with the image quality so far, much better than I've been able to get scanning MF negatives. The kit lens is amazing, much better than that provided by canon or nikon. I have a bunch of old pentax lenses that work with this body no problem (not true for canon or nikon). I like to use full manual mode including manual focus, so I don't see how one would improve upon this camera. more than 12 MP, RAW, DNG, and HD video. The AA batteries were a big plus for me as I will bring it backpacking and other remote places where recharging a Li battery isn't possible. Overall a fantastic camera definitely worth the buydig price. BTW I got the white kit and it looks fantastic.Oh, if you're on the west coast, opt for the free shipping, it comes in the same time as the 3-6 day shipping.
