Comment:
This is an excellent camera to take with you wherever you may go. It fits in your pocket even with close fitting leather cases available on eBay. It is particularly good to shoot in available light. In my opinion this is a poor choice if your interest is in adding optical grips, viewfinders, filters, external flash, close up lenses, etc. This is a camera for someone who accepts the camera for what it is; a sleek compact, light camera that is excellent in low light especially at wide angle.

Also in my opinion the RX100 is a better choice than the more recently offered RX100II. The II version is made to add attachments, which compromise the intended purpose of the camera. There are better camera choices if you want to carry a full bag with attachments.

This camera has a lot of functions, and could be intimidating to those who do not want to learn it. Further, if you just want to shoot auto, it can do it, but is kind of a waste of money if that is all you plan to do.

Comment:
This has a 1 sensor which is much larger than the usual 1/2.5 or somewhat better 1/1.7 sensor in compact cameras. Because of this larger sensor the sensitivity and resolution are far superior to virtually all of the compact cameras (the Panasonic LX7 comes closest). The still image quality rivals larger dSLR cameras (with APS-C sensors) in all respects except low light performance.
Video features and quality are also excellent outperforming virtually all cameras in its class and above. For technical info look up dxomark.
