Bought this lens back in 2005 and it worked flawlessly until around 2009. During that time, it took crisp, vibrant photos and was a wonder in low light. However, the build quality was terrible. The first think you notice is the plastic coating on the barrel coming off. By the 4th year the barrel had continued to jam and the auto-focus was continually hunting. Eventually the lens broke down completely and I had to chuck it.

Nikon #581306 is the tested item. Per simcaphoto.com lens chart,the picture fits #582306 which has a 72mm filter thread and has the HSM feature. Both are for Nikon type G mounting. The lens I own is #582306. Requires care attaching to my d90.
