| About This Brand |
|---|
Positioned as a premium brand, Apple computers usually cost more than Windows-based systems. Apple computers use Apple's operating system, Mac OS X. Macs can also run Windows. Mac OS X is known to have fewer problems with viruses and other malware. The company primarily offers several consumer lines, the MacBook and MacBook Pro (laptops), the iMac (all-in-one desktops), and the Mac mini (a small form-factor budget desktop). Apple's telephone tech support is limited to three months, but you can get unlimited free tech support at the Genius Bar in Apple stores. |

I use the Macbook Pro to manager my pics and videos, watch movies, play iTunes, and to surf the web (basically everything I used my Windows-based laptop for). Not having to worry about malware and viruses (for now anyway. I'm sure there is some computer geek out there trying to get his face on the news for being the first to crack a Mac OS) is great. Also, if you've never operated a Mac (which I had not since the 3rd grade) it is very fluid and easy to learn. I have owned it for about 7 months and am now eyeing the iMac.
The only thing I did not like was the price.

I was in the market for a new Laptop last year and after years of being bombarded with the Apple hype I gave in and bought the Macbook Pro. Who wouldn't want a user friendly computer? Who wouldn't want something that didn't freeze up all the time? Who wouldn't want something that just worked better? Well, after a week of use I was very disappointed with the machine but I attributed that mostly to the learning curve (and trust me Windows veterans, there is one). For that reason I resisted posting any review until I felt I had given it a fair trial. Well, after months of use I can now honestly say that I regret buying a Mac. First the good. The unit itself is VERY well made. I'd give it 10/10 for build quality and ergonomics. The screen is clear and bright, the keyboard is solid and the trackpad is the best I've used. But that's where my joy ends. I bought this computer because it was supposed just "work better". Well, it doesn't. I simply do not find that the vaunted Mac operating system is all that good. Different from Windows, yes, Better? Not really. The same can be said for much of the Apple software. There is nothing WRONG with it, but it is not any better then its Window's based equivalent. As for being reliable, my Mac has frozen (and required a hard reboot) as often as any PC I have ever owned. But my biggest issue with Mac is that it simply does not interact well with the 95% of the world who are using PCs. Certainly you can configure the Mac to make it more "friendly" to Windows users, but anyone who tells you that it is "seamless" is either delusional or a liar. Moreover, so many popular programs - Skype is a great example - don't work all that well on a Mac. What you get is a watered down version of the software that lacks half of the features you'd get in the Windows version. The same can be said for email & messaging from Hotmail, Yahoo, etc. And just wait until the first time you go to a website and discover that it doesn't support Mac's Safari browser! (oh yes, they are out there, believe me). Bottom line, I got sucked in by the hype and perhaps my expectations were too high. For all the things that are good on the Mac, it has ultimately created far more problems for me then it has solved. So flawed though it is, I will be going back to the world of Windows and PCs very shortly.

I use my MacBook Pro at home but am performing job-related tasks much of the time. I use it for word processing, web research (web surfing), comunicating on educational courseware (web-based--D2L), creating web pages (Dream Weaver),making digital stories (iMovie), and occasionally watching movies or TV programs.
