About This Brand
Its Photosmart printers are ink-jets for those whose emphasis is on printing photos. The Officejet line, also an ink-jet brand, is geared more toward home offices and small businesses. Laserjets are laser printers available as black-and-white and color models in standard and all-in-one configurations. The Deskjet line is for simpler tasks, while the Business Inkjet is a higher-priced professional model. The Designjet series is for high-end graphics printing. For the widest selection of HP printers at the best prices, try Newegg.com. PCConnection, PCMall, and HP’s own Web site also have a broad selection, while Amazon, Costco, and Tiger Direct have better-than-average prices.

Used daily. Easy install and setup, after that it goes downhill.A scan of a 4x6 photo ends up as a thumbnail on an 8 1/2 x 11 page when viewed. Copies of 4x6 photos ended up as 4x51\2 when printed. The print preferences do not allow a print preview and would not accept a draft copy selection. The user manual is inadequate and the online help menu contains too much information not related to the stated problems. I gave up and returned it to the retailer. I think they should change this model name to YETI. It is ABOMINABLE.

Comment:
My workhorse is a HP LaserJet 1200 and my first choice for printing. I obtained the HP 3050 as a supplemental printer for color printouts, copy capability and for the wireless operation. The set-up and wireless connection was quick and easy. The printer works fine when I need it to and prints good documents.<br /> <br />A nice feature is the Sleep Mode and it wakes up quickly when a document is sent for printing. I do not know how long the ink cartridges will last since I use this printer sparingly. It does what I need for a low price.

Bought it at [...] Setup on a MacBook Pro is brain-dead simple. Insert the CD, start the install and plug in the enclosed USB cable, all according to the instructions. Went through the setup routine, which included wireless. Disconnected the USB cable and voila, I'm printing wirelessly. Changed the IP configuration from DHCP to static to prevent later problems, simple using the web management app. Scans JPG or PDF, also through a web app. Text isn't as black as I would like, but it's a [$] printer (at[...]...) and I can live with that. The perfect printer for any student. Print, scan or copy. Since it's new, I have no experience with the ink cartridge life, which other reviewers have complained about. I was apprehensive on buying it based on what I read in other reviews, but I thought that HP makes tens of thousands of this printer and my experience has been that HP is alalogous with printers. I still use a HP 990C that I have had for years and have no complaints about it. While your experience may vary, I do not think you will go wrong with this printer.
