The Brother HL-5370DW is part of the printer
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, regular printer
models like the HL-5370DW are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
Ink and paper/month:
Estimated cost (in dollars) for ink and photo paper in a month of typical use, based on our tests and how our readers told us they print.
For inkjets: 23 text pages, 9 graphics pages, 2.4 large photos, 3.6 small photos, and 3.5 photos on plain paper.
For lasers: 62 text pages, 24 graphics pages, 1.7 large photos, 1.9 small photos, and 2.3 photos on plain paper.
Photos cost the most, text documents the least, so your results may vary from these figures, but they are useful for comparing models.
Text quality:
This indicates how crisply and clearly a printer produced black text in a variety of faces, sizes, and styles. Models with higher scores produce more uniform type, with sharper edges and smoother curves.
Text speed:
This score reflects how quickly the model can print text on five pages of plain, letter-sized pages. 30 seconds or less is excellent; 31 to 60 seconds is very good; 61 to 90 seconds is good; 91 to 120 seconds is fair; and longer than 120 seconds is poor.

Networking The ability to connect to a home network for printing from a computer either via an Ethernet or a WiFi connection. Ethernet is the common wired network and WiFi is the wireless format commonly found in laptop computers.
We have been using this printer for about two years.<br />This is the best Black & White printer one can have for the house for the following reasons:<br />1. It is a network printer. This means that you connect it to your network and then you can print from any computer wired or WiFi at your home.<br />2. It works very well with iMac Mac Book Pro and I assume iPad too.<br />3. It prints very high quality Black & White prints.<br />4. Printing is very fast.<br />5. For the price of $80 or $70 you can get a cartridge that will last you years (We are using the same cartridge for the last two years).<br />Comment::<br />No need to setup the printer to connect wirelessly it is cumbersome!<br />Connect it directly to the router it is much easier and much more reliable and will also work perfectly this way with the WiFi connected computers like LapTops.(Who needs wireless connection to the printer)<br /><br />What else one needs?

)-: printing duplex on 3-hole paper
6/13/2011
Pros
Easy To Use
Excellent Print Quality
Fast Operation
Reliable
Cons
Jams Easily
Unreliable
Best Uses
Comment:
This model does not print duplex on 3-hole paper. I even tried printing on 30# 3-hole paper and it still would jam as the machine would feed the paper back in to print on the reverse side. This was very disappointing because the previous model HL-5250DN never had this problem. I have returned the HL-5370DW model for a full refund.

Comment:
This was the perfect printer for all our black-and-white printing for all our computers. Now it is only perfect for the one computer for which we have a wired connection. The wifi worked for a few months and then suddenly quit. We called in a consultant who verified that there's nothing we can do about that problem.

Strength
easy to set up, output is very fast, prints outs look great, duplexing and booklet making are a snap in XP
Weakness
can't get booklet making to work correctly in Vista. when printing on card stock, paper is curled badly...doesn't seem to happen as much with regular paper.
Good printer! It is easy to setup and use, and booklet-making and duplexing are a snap in XP. Unfortunately, making booklets doesn't seem to work in Vista. The printer will curl card stock badly, but regular paper seems to feed without this occurring. It is a very fast printer!
