Best all-in-one printers
Many new inkjet printers are all-in-one models that not only print color photos and text but also allow you to make color copies, scan, and in some cases fax.

All of the models tested in our Ratings of all-in-one printers (available to subscribers) have memory-card readers, enabling you to grab photos from your digital camera without a computer. An LCD viewer, built into all but the HP Officejet Pro L7580 (available to subscribers), lets you edit photos right on the printer. PictBridge, a wired connection to a camera, is standard on all.

For a home-based business, choose the Canon Pixma MX850. It has a built-in fax, an automatic document feeder, and a second paper tray, and you can set it to print on both sides of the paper automatically. For printer-based photo editing, consider the Canon Pixma MP970 (both available to subscribers). Its 2.5-inch LCD lets you edit photos from the printer.

For under $200, choose the Canon Pixma MP520, with an LCD viewer and a second paper tray. You might also consider the Canon Pixma MP610. For fast, low-cost text printing, consider the HP Officejet Pro L7580 (all available to subscribers), the only all-in-one printer we tested that prints text for less than 2 cents a page. Although it has no LCD viewer, you might consider it for printing 4x6 photos because it does so at a low cost.
