About - LG 37LH55

The 37LH55 is part of the TV test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, LCD TV models like the 37LH55 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

HD picture quality:
A trained viewing panel's evaluation of the TV's picture clarity and color accuracy, using known references, when displaying a 1080i HD signal. The picture's quality rating is determined by how well it displays all the attributes of an HD signal including the fine details you would expect from HD. All signals were sent through the HDMI input, which can be used to connect a HD DVD player, digital-cable box, satellite receiver, or off-air digital receiver/tuner to the TV.

SD picture quality:
Indicates how a TV displays "regular," non-HD TV programming. This picture quality score is based on a standard-definition (SD) TV signal, known as 480i, sent through the TV's HDMI inputs, except where indicated. The SD images are evaluated by trained panelists, using known references. Common sources of this standard-definition signal are digital cable boxes and satellite boxes.

Viewing angle:
Indicates our evaluation of picture quality for clarity and color accuracy at various horizontal and vertical viewing angles.

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We've owned three LG Plasma/LCD TV's. One was returned due to malfunction but it was covered by a 3 year warranty. Now that I've received the replacement for that and bought an additional TV for my daughter's room, they have decreased their warranty to 12 months. This should be a huge warning sign ... while dealing with their customer service folks during my first LG warranty service, they made promises that were not kept and the process took well over 6 months. Toward the end of that process I was told that the set was "now out of it's warranty period", which was not true because the idiot was calculating a 24 month warranty vice 36. HOWEVER, you can bet your bottom dollar that they'll screw you out of warranty coverage any chance they get. My issue was finally resolved and I was allowed to return it because they couldn't fix my old set, but I lived without it for 6 months while they monkeyed-the-football and customer service reps were a complete nightmare; each one trying to figure out a way to prove I was a crook or something.

I would not have purchased an LG for my daughter had I realized they had cut the warranty to 12 months vice 36 but I also won't bother with their warranty fools again if I have issues, the headaches are not worth the purchase price. That will certainly be the last LG purchased for our house, unless they do a round-turn on their warranty policy and customer service. I love their sets though; I just don't trust them as far as I can throw them.

This particular set is absolutely amazing ... I have no problems with it whatsoever.
