Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's
our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on gas grill
models like the Signature Series VCS323SSP.
The grill's primary cooking grates may be made of porcelain coated cast-iron, which generally sears meats better and keeps grilling temperatures more consistent than grates made of porcelain coated steel. The porcelain coating usually makes such grates easier to clean than other surfaces, and the grates should resist rust as long as their porcelain coating isn't chipped.
All or mostly stainless:
Includes more than just a panel or other trim. Based on our limited tests, nonmagnetic stainless is less likely to corrode.
While burners remain the grill's most-replaced part, most are warranted for only 3 to 5 years. Better burners are covered for 10 years or more.

This Canadian-made brand has been producing models that have rated well in our Ratings over the years. The company's grills are known for their cast-iron grates, cast-iron end caps on the grill hood, and a large number of features, including towel hooks, LED lights, marinating trays, a tank pull-out tray, and utensil hooks. Vermont Castings added porcelain-enamel colors to their grills in 2008. The company sells grills priced from $450 to $1,600, and natural-gas versions are available in almost all models.

Side burner A side burner, which resembles a gas-stove burner and has its own heat control, is handy if you want to cook vegetables or sauce without leaving the grill. A side burner could also be an infrared burner used for searing.
Infrared burner Gas burner that uses infrared technology (ceramic burner, plates and screens, or troughs as some examples) for cooking. An indirect flame is used for cooking food. Burner can be located as the main burner, side burner, rotisserie burner, or any combination of burners.
I have owned a similar vcs 6006 which I use year round for 5 years. I was intending to replace the cooking grates which had shown wear. Upon cleaning the burner plates & tubes. I noticed 4 of the 6 burner tubes were just hanging. The point where the burner tubes attach to the frame have rusted through to the point that it will be impossible to repair. The shelf areas under the grill also have considerable rust & decay. This grill was purchased at a substantial price as it appearded to be worth the price for initial construction and features. We are very disappointed with the quality of the internal parts and lack of durability considering the price. The grill has been covered in a protected area for the entire time.

We use this product year round in Minnesota. Its our favorite grill - and we've purchased a few over the past 20 years. The rotisserie is incredible. We will never buy a rotisserie chicken again because this grill makes them better.

Grill Rusted Out After 6
I grill out year round and this is my third gas grill. It is heavy duty or appeared to be. I noticed one of the burners needed to be replaced and ordered a new one. When I was installing it I noticed the base where the burner attached was rusted out. I had no place to attach the burner. I then looked at the other burners and they were just hanging there. While the lid was very heavy duty, the base was not and the grill needed replacement. I would have thought I would get more than 6 years from a top grill. My prior gas grill lasted over 18 years.
