CR says: "You'd be better off buying an inexpensive conventional cordless drill than the Hitachi DB3DL."
I don't understand that. A cordless screwdriver like this is not used that same way a regular cordless drill is. I drill holes with my Makita BDF452HW then I use this to put in the screws. It's a great combination.
I just built some hardwood stairs and this was invaluable. It's powerful enough to drill small pilot holes if you need it.
If you are a home owner looking for a good do it all drill and want something that's small and easy to store and use this is it. In fact you might not even need a regular cordless drill. This thing is that powerful.
Also, a regular cordless drill is clumsy. If I want to take apart my computer or something, I'm not going to go get my Makita. I'll use this instead. This is going to fit in places a normal cordless drill won't.
Check the the over reviews of this screwdriver around the net. They're really positive. I can't believe I used my old black and decker for that long.
I have gone through 5 drivers because of the speed selection slide switch backing off between high and low. I contacted HITACHI and received no resolution or satisfaction on the problem.
Now the wires have broken off inside after 5 months.
One minor roll off the workbench and the case broke at the hinge. A few weeks old and off for repairs...
