I had bought this machine at local [@] in thanksgiving sale and tried to use it in first snowfall on Jan 20, 2012 and tried to use it first time on my walkway and sidewalk and was very hard to operate and menovour and keep power on. Once you loose grip on power, it is difficult to keep pressing starter button. Power does not stay on and very very difficult to menovour. I stopped using it and noticed that the blade was alrady broken. bad product. I am returing it to [@].

Does the job for what it's advertised to do. It's just a Power Shovel', not a snow blower. Works fine for up to about 6 of snow in my narrow 40 foot long driveway. Not great on pure slush. Electric means no fumes to breathe. You just need a long enough outdoor extension cord. I think Consumer Reports is overreacting against this thing as it's not meant to replace a full fledged snow blower.

We purchased the Power Shovel after reviewing several alternatives. Considering our normal snowfall, we couldn't see spending 3 to 5 times as much for minor differences in performance. This is not the machine to use for clearing several feet of snow, but for 6-8 inches, it is great! Definitely lighter than a half-full shovel of snow, very easy to manuver and storage is a no brainer. The only drawbacks are that it does not remove all trace of snow or hard packed snow, so I use it as soon as the snow stops. Also, the direction that this machine throws can be frustrating (straight ahead with no means of controling this). Within a few minutes anyone can figure out that spraying into the wind is a bad idea, and you shovel in the direction you want the snow to go. I just pulled it out for the second season and it worked just like before. But at the price, if I have to replace it every two years, it will be worth it. I would definitely purchase it again.
