Comment:
trimming 300' of chain link fence, 175' around buildings and garden beds; edging 150' along street, driveway and gardens - uses both batteries fully charged. For best cutting I use 5 edge string - not round OEM string. Easily converts from trimming to edging - light weight. I had the batteries rebuilt after about 3 years on my first trimmer before the trimmer itself died. For heavy use conditions get electric or gas. Love the comment it would not even run while plugged in since this is a cordless tool - scrutinize comments closely and eliminate those that are from people who don't really say anything.

fIRST 3 months, I did my yard with 1 battery. After that it took both batteries. Less than a year and a half, both batteries are done!!! [$] EACH, I can buy the WHOLE trimmer AGAIN for $15 more. B&D says the batteries are good for about 500 charges. I got about 25-35 charges. JUNK!!!!!

Not worth it

Pros
Inexpensive
Lightweight
Cons
Low Power
Poor cutting performance
Short runtime
Best Uses
Comment:
Not worth the money. Although the runtime is as advertized, not all of that is at full power. Adequate the first few minutes on a new charge, but then tends to mangle rather than cut. Definitely not up to the challenge of St Augustine grass. This product is a good idea in principle, but doesn't pan out in practice.

Strength
No wire--light weight--auto feed
Weakness
EXTREMEMLY POOR Batteries--will not hold a charge, drain quickly and take a long time to re-charge (6 hours)
Very poor batteries--they must be used immediately after charging, drain quickly, and take a long time to re-charge. Since it only comes with 1 charger and won't hold a charge, must start charging 12 hours before you intend to use it (6 hours for each battery). With today's battery technology, Black & Decker could have done much better

Strength
Automatic Line Feed, Adjustment to Edger, No starting problems, No string issues
Weakness
Battery Life and length of charge time
I don't dread edging anymore because of the hassel of a gas trimmer. Keeping one of those running is tough. I have 600 feet of sidewalk and curb to edge and then the general trimming of the yard. It used to take 40 to 50 minutes. I can get it done with this one in 25 minutes. However, both batteries are dead by then. I need 1 more battery so I can finish my back yard during the same day. The batteries take 4 to 6 hours each to recharge. It is not qutie as powerful as a gas trimmer but it handles my thick southern lawn just fine. It is a little quieter. I have used it 4 times and so far I am on the same spool of line. I like that I am not starting and stopping with line or engine problems. One more battery and I'll be good to go. If you like to power up your gas trimmer to dig a hole, this one will get you there but it will take a while. But I have a big yard with a lot of edging and I like the trade off of power vs. time savings and less hassels.

Minimal power, line length requires close cutting.
I bought this as a sub for my 18cc gas trimmer that is in for repair...much longer than it should be. I have a little larger yard than normal...actually the size is about normal, but the former owner had a lot of nicely cut detail work around the trees...and I try to maintain that. 2 batteries is not enough. I bought a rapid charger...and a blower with two more batteries, and being creative with doing all of the trimming and blowing first, then charging while mowing, I manage to get by. If you are looking at just this...I would strongly recommend in getting the entire 3 piece kit that comes with the blower and the hedger. I bought the blower separate...and now wish I had gotten all three at the same time. One side effect of it being a little wimpy is that if you run into something...it doesn't destroy it. This thing will cut grass...but it will not chew through the yard light housings, etc. So, it is good to give to an assistant to help while you mow. :) Another nice thing about this is that I can throw it in the car really easy as I sometimes maintain my parents yard...and have a rental house that sometimes have to maintain. The battery powered tools are really helpful there. One major draw back is the the line is really small...and short. So, you have to stand pretty close to your cutting. I am sure this is a battery and power issue. I do plan to try replacing the line with a heavier line when this spool runs out. I hope it works. As far as over all rating? Well, just make sure you can use for a bit with a good return policy. Plan on getting extra batteries. I would probably buy it again because it serves it purpose. But I do miss the speed and power of my gas powered...when it worked.
