Magellan models have improved in our Ratings, and the Maestro 4700 is now No. 2 among units that can be enhanced with traffic data, just behind the TomTom Go 930, $300. But we were not impressed with the Mio Moov S501, which ranked near the bottom of the category, and the Moov S401, rated last. The Insignia NS-NAV01 was the lowest-scoring among basic models. The best: Garmin Nuvi 260W, $200.

LowsThe battery life is poor, and the device is slow to calculate new routes. There is no detour function and no feature that lets you exclude roads from a particular route. The slow performance and missing navigational features make this unit a subpar performer.
