A USB cable is all you need to transfer photos to your computer.

Do I need to use the CD that came with my new digital camera to get pictures onto my computer?

Paul Sullivan
Grand Bahama, Bahamas

That CD probably contains the user manual, basic editing software, and tutorials, but you don't need it to transfer photos from the camera to your computer. To load photos onto your computer, connect the camera and computer with a USB cable or insert the camera's memory card into the card reader on the computer or a reader that you connect to the computer. Your Windows or Mac operating system should recognize the memory card as an external hard drive.

Are replacement tires as good as the original-equipment tires?

Albert Zax
Hamden, CT

The tires that came with your new car were made to give the vehicle the best combination of handling, braking, ride comfort, quietness, and fuel economy. Even replacement tires of the same model might not be exactly like the originals. But that doesn't mean they're not as good, and some replacement tires could provide better all-weather performance and longer tread life. Choose tires that score highly in our tire Ratings and provide the highest performance in the criteria most important to your regular driving conditions.

Is it unhealthy to ingest the charcoal particles that seep through my water filter to the bottom of the pitcher?

Mike Fazioli
Macungie, PA

Most cartridges emit those particles when new and should stop after they've filtered the first half gallon or so. That's why manufacturers usually tell you to discard the first pitcher or two of filtered water. If a cartridge continues to emit particles, request a replacement cartridge from the manufacturer. If you see particles after a month of use, replace the cartridge; particles could contain contaminants.

How can I recoup the $19.95 monthly fee Smart Credit keeps drawing from my bank account even after my free trial has ended?

D. Lin
Los Angeles

Smart Credit's Web site offers services we don't recommend, such as credit monitoring and ID-theft detection; you can do those yourself free. You had to cancel your trial within 30 days to avoid a charge. Smart Credit didn't respond when we asked about a refund for you. Cancel your membership online if you haven't already.
