Consumers can find very good choices in computer monitors, in some cases for noticeably less money than a year ago. The displays rated here scored Very Good overall, but they fell short on viewing angles, which can be an issue if more than one person is looking at the screen.

In the 19- and 20-inch category, A1 LG topped our list and had a price of $150. A2 Gateway and A4 Dell are fine performers, too, and cost a bit less. A4 scored a little higher on viewing angle. You can get a larger 22- to 26-inch display to make your computer work more enjoyable for not too much more money. Those larger displays might help if you plan to watch high-definition videos or TV on your computer. B2 ViewSonic and B3 Hanns G are CR Best Buys.

If your budget is much higher, consider the top-scoring B1 Apple, which has a vivid display and excellent viewing angle for $850. But it does lack many standard connections.
