Where better to discuss social-media services than on Facebook? In late July, we asked whether people thought it "would be helpful to have Internet access or the ability to link up with social-media networks in your car." If so, what services would be most helpful to have? Overall, people were overwhelmingly against the concept. Here are some responses from the more than 200 we received:

"Too distracting while driving. But I would love to be able to locate cheap gas prices or find a Walmart while traveling. Just can't use it while the car is moving."

"We've got enough distracted drivers as it is. I don't think we need more toys to add to it."

"Yes! Internet radio."

"The key would be to organize it in a way to let people make use of the benefits of having the Internet, without opening a can of worms of distractions."

"A lockout feature could be used to prevent usage while the vehicle is under way."

"It would be good to pull over and look up phone numbers, addresses, or hours that places are open."

"It would be great if it was a speech-recognition feature, so you could ask questions and have the answers spoken to you."

"Best thing would be a direct line to a therapist specializing in addiction, because if someone can't go without being on a social network in a car, they need help!"

"I have Facebook access in my car. I don't think this is any more distracting than hands-free phone calls, GPS instructions, talking to someone else in the car, or sipping from a hot or cold drink."

"I think manufacturers and marketing types have more interest in us having these abilities than we have a need for them."

"I would be tempted to use it and crash!"

"No. I'm a social-network gal by all means. But let's tone it down a notch."

"It's frightening enough already seeing so many people on their cell phones, reading maps and newspapers, putting on lipstick, etc., while driving."
