Peanut recall list is growing

Last reviewed: May 2009

This article is the archived version of a report that appeared in May 2009 Consumer Reports Magazine.

Since federal officials linked an outbreak of salmonella to peanut products in early January, the list of tainted items has grown substantially.

As of early March, more than 2,600 products had voluntarily been recalled by more than 200 companies.

Those products used peanuts and peanut butter paste provided by Peanut Corporation of America in cookies, crackers, and other foods. The recalls have not affected major national brands of peanut butter itself.

For a complete list of the latest recalled products, you can use a searchable federal database at www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/peanutbutterrecall/index.cfm.
