Power cord can wear down and expose wiring, posing shock and burn hazards.

Products: 530,000 580,000 steam cleaners sold through TV infomercials, QVC TV, at www.thane.com, and at retailers from June 2007 through December 2008 for $100. The model numbers of affected units are 808.092 and OEM-TV-001. The distributor, Thane, has had 10 reports involving shock injuries and eight reports involving burns.

What to do: Stop using the appliance and call Thane at 800-485-0017 or go to www.h2omopservice.com for a free repair kit.

Kidde dual-sensor smoke alarms

An electrostatic discharge can damage the alarm and it will not work properly to warn of a fire.

Products: 94,000 dual-sensor smoke alarms sold at stores and electrical distributors from August 2008 through May 2009 for $30 to $40. Recalled model is P12000.

What to do: Call Kidde at 877-524-2086 or go to www.kidde.com to get a free replacement smoke alarm.

Copco Harmony teakettles

Lid on kettle can come loose during handling, posing risk of burns.

Products: 142,000 kettles sold nationwide from March 2006 through June 2009 for $30. Copco has been informed of 25 instances of the lid coming loose, with reports of second-degree burns to hands and fingers.

What to do: Stop using the kettle. If you have a stainless kettle, contact Wilton, the distributor, for free replacement lid; if you have an enamel kettle, you will get a replacement kettle or a refund. Call 800-794-5866 or go to www.copco.com.

Firestone tires

Tread can distort or separate from tires, causing driver to lose control of vehicle.

Products: 127,183 FR380 tires in size P235/75 R15 made by Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations from September 2007 to July 2008.

What to do: Check serial number on sidewall; 3607 through 3008 are affected. Or go to a Firestone tire dealer or store to have tires inspected. Call the company at 800-465-1904 for replacements.
