Since 1936, Consumers Union has fought for access to affordable, high quality health care for all. Our intensive efforts to improve the quality of health care, and enhance and extend coverage and services, include our national campaigns on hospital infections, prescription drugs, and other targeted efforts. Consumers Union’s food safety efforts seek to focus public attention on food safety risks and regulatory deficiencies that can result in harm to the public. No issue is more fundamental to American consumers.

The Stop Hospital Infections campaign was established to help consumers find the best quality of care by promoting the public disclosure of hospital infection rates. If hospitals disclose this key information, consumers and employers can select the safest hospitals and hospitals will be motivated to improve. Learn more

The NotInMyFood.org campaign aims to trigger reforms that would lead to a unified food safety agency. The goal is to put consumer’s welfare ahead of the food industry’s financial concerns and give Americans greater assurance that what’s on their plates won’t cause them harm. Learn more

Prescription for Change works to give all consumers access to safe, effective, and affordable prescription drugs. We provide consumers with timely information about prescription drug issues and current efforts at the state and federal level to improve safety, effectiveness, and access to medicines. Learn more

Consumers Union created NotInMyCart.org to give you a place to check for recent product recalls and take action to make all products safer in the future. The U.S. market is now flooded with imported products--tens of millions of items arriving in cargo ships stacked high with containers. Recalls, after a dangerous product is found on store shelves, are important, but not enough. Manufacturers, retailers, government and ordinary Americans must all take responsibility to keep our children and our homes safe, and we've tried to make it easy for you to help. Learn more
