Stroke, emergency care

Questions to ask your doctor
If you've had a stroke, you may want to talk with your doctor to find out more. Here are some questions that you might want
to ask:
- How serious was my stroke?
- When can I get a brain scan?
- What do you think caused it?
- Will I be treated in a unit that specializes in stroke care?
- What kind of stroke have I had?
- Will my symptoms go away?
- Will I be disabled? What disabilities will I have?
- What's the best treatment for me?
- Will I need any drug treatment?
- What are the side effects of treatment?
- Will I have another stroke?
- What should I do if I get similar symptoms again?
- What can I do to help myself? Do I need to change my diet? Should I eat less fat? Do I need to stop smoking or exercise more?
- Should I take any vitamin supplements?
- Are other members of my family at risk of having a stroke? If they are, what can they do to protect themselves?
