Bugaboo Giraffe High Chair Recalled After 13 Injuries Reported

The news comes one day after Consumer Reports urged the Consumer Product Safety Commission to investigate and recall the product

More than 18,000 Bugaboo Giraffe high chairs have been officially recalled in the U.S. after 22 reports of the chair’s legs detaching from the seat base, leading to the chair’s collapse.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Bugaboo North America has received 13 reports of injuries in children using the Giraffe high chair, and CR has reported on falls, abrasions, and loss of consciousness. Parents had posted warnings about the Bugaboo Giraffe’s risk of collapse on Reddit and Amazon and across Instagram and TikTok, submitting numerous incident reports to SaferProducts.gov, the CPSC’s product safety reporting database. Given the number and severity of injuries reported, Consumer Reports had previously urged parents and caregivers to stop using the high chair.

The recall news comes one day after Consumer Reports urged the CPSC to do an investigation and recall. The Giraffe was recalled in May in Australia, and a safety report was issued in April in the U.K.

Safety Issues with the Bugaboo Giraffe: What Parents Should Know

The CPSC recall notice states that the chair’s legs can detach from the frame if the screws connecting the legs become loose. This poses a fall hazard and a risk of serious injury or death to babies using the high chair, the recall notice says. “Safety is paramount to ensure the well-being of our customers and their children,” a spokesperson for Bugaboo wrote in an email to CR. Bugaboo has developed a repair kit to address the issue, which includes a new Allen key, screws, and an instruction manual. “The replacement can be carried out easily and safely by customers,” according to Bugaboo.

The repair kit can be requested on Bugaboo’s site.

    MORE ON BABY SAFETY

Consumer Reports had previously tested and reviewed the Bugaboo Giraffe high chair, though we didn’t encounter any issue with the chair disconnecting from the base during our testing. CR’s engineers were able to request a repair kit from Bugaboo and install it in the model we used during testing.

“The new screws and Allen key are likely to help prevent unintentional loosening, but we aren’t able to say how much more effective they are,” says Joan Muratore, the engineer who leads CR’s high chairs testing. “If you own this high chair, you’ll still need to be vigilant about checking the screws regularly, as outlined in the repair kit instructions: two weeks after installing the repair kit, and then every six months afterward.”

The Giraffe high chairs were sold for $380 at Nordstrom and other specialty stores across the U.S., as well as online at Bugaboo and Amazon from May 2023 through April 2025, the CPSC said.

No refund is being offered at this time. “It’s unacceptable that Bugaboo is not offering a refund to consumers who want one,” says Gabe Knight, senior policy analyst at Consumer Reports. “Babies have been injured falling from this high chair, and parents may not feel comfortable using it anymore. We applaud the CPSC for recalling this product and alerting consumers to the potential safety risks, but Bugaboo should let caretakers decide whether they want the free repair kit, or their money back.”

    Bugaboo Giraffe Recall Details

High chairs recalled: About 18,280, plus 2,325 sold in Canada.

The problem: The high chairs pose a fall hazard and risk of serious injury or death to babies because the legs of the chair can detach from the frame if the screws connecting the legs loosen.

The fix: Stop using the high chair and contact Bugaboo for a free repair kit. The kit includes an Allen key and new screws to install into the chair’s legs. At this time, no refund has been offered.

How to contact the manufacturer: You can call the Bugaboo Service Team toll-free at 800-460-2922 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday and between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET Friday, email service.us@bugaboo.com, or request a repair kit online.
