James E. Rogers, PhD, is the Director of Product Safety Research and Testing at Consumer Reports. He is responsible for leading the food safety, nutrition, and product safety operations of the organization. His teams perform food and product testing, nutritional analysis, and risk and safety assessments of products. Additionally, James oversees assessments of the safe operation and use of consumer products.
Experience and Education
James came to CR from the Department of Agriculture, where he worked in food regulation and methods development, and led advisory committees. Prior to this work, James worked for the Army and Navy, providing leadership in laboratory operations, methods development, and samples analysis. James received his Bachelor of Science in medical microbiology (cum laude) from Ohio University, his master’s degree in microbiology from Miami (Ohio) University, and his doctorate in microbiology and immunology from the University of Michigan.
